Eleven rental branches at Hiroshima Station: how to choose

Hiroshima Station has eleven rental branches from seven companies. Eight are on the Shinkansen (north) side and two on the south side, and Eki Rent-a-Car is a short walk from the Shinkansen gates. You can walk to all of them. At Nippon and Toyota on the Shinkansen side, reception and car pickup are in different places.

This page compares each branch's address, hours, walking route and rules on one-way returns, with reference prices and where to return the car.

  • A short walk: for Eki Rent-a-Car, leave the Shinkansen gates, go down to the first floor, leave the station and go about 80 m right. On the Shinkansen side, Orix, Times and Nico Nico are about three minutes away, as are Nippon and Nico Nico on the south side.
  • Evening return: Nippon South Exit and Nico Nico Higashi-Kaniyacho close last, at 21:00. Times closes at 19:00.
  • A large car: Toyota does not handle registration classifications 1 and 2 or W4 class. Nissan does not handle T4–T6 or M1 classes. Times cannot rent out tall or long vehicles.
  • Returning at another branch: both Nippon branches, Toyota, Orix Shinkansen Exit and Eki Rent-a-Car accept returns from other branches.
  • A lower base rate: on the Japanese-licence standard rates before discounts, Eki Rent-a-Car is lowest among the large companies at ¥8,470 for a compact car for 24 hours. Nico Nico is ¥5,610.

The other company pages do not cover ETC cards, so ask when you book. At Nico Nico, an International Driving Permit (IDP) holder must handle the contract in Japanese without an interpreter or translation app, and acceptance varies by branch.

Reference rates at seven companies

These are compact-car standard rates: regular season, tax included, before discounts, on a Japanese driving licence. The 48-hour total is the first 24 hours, one further day and two days of basic collision damage waiver (CDW).

Company and class First 24 hours Each further 24 hours Basic CDW per day 48 hours with basic CDW Minivan (7–8 seats), 24 hours
Nico Nico S (Aqua, Yaris, Roomy) ¥5,610 ¥5,610 ¥1,100 ¥13,420 ¥15,180
Eki Rent-a-Car S (Fit, Yaris) ¥8,470 ¥7,150 ¥1,100 ¥17,820 ¥22,550
Toyota C1 (Yaris, Passo) ¥8,580 ¥7,260 ¥1,100 ¥18,040 ¥20,900
Times C-1 (Mazda2, Note e-POWER) ¥8,855 ¥7,920 ¥1,100 ¥18,975 ¥22,770
Nippon N-B (Fit, Corolla) ¥8,910 ¥7,150 ¥1,100 ¥18,260 ¥22,550
Nissan P2 (March, Note) ¥9,790 ¥7,700 ¥1,650 ¥20,790 ¥24,090
Orix SA (Fit, Note 1.2) ¥9,900 ¥7,920 ¥1,100 ¥20,020 ¥22,660

With a foreign licence, Toyota has a separate list: C1 is ¥10,340 for the first 24 hours and ¥8,690 for each further 24 hours, before optional cover. Get a quote for your own licence and dates at the other companies, because these figures are not a visitor quote.

Read the driving licence guide before you book, and the CDW and NOC guide to see what basic cover leaves you paying.

Choose the branch near your station exit

The nearest branch depends on whether you leave by the Shinkansen (north) side or the south side.

  • Close to the Shinkansen Exit: Orix Shinkansen Exit (three minutes), Times (with your back to the exit, on the left, next to Hiroshima TV on the north side of the GRANODE Hiroshima first floor; about three minutes), Nico Nico Shinkansen Exit (through the roundabout, about 300 m east along Futaba-dori; about three minutes), Nippon Shinkansen Exit (two minutes to reception) and Toyota (reception on the first floor of the Sheraton Grand Hiroshima).
  • A short walk from the Shinkansen Exit: Nissan (five minutes along the Shinkansen viaduct from the Sheraton, then left when Atago level crossing appears on your right, three minutes more), Nico Nico Higashi-Kaniyacho (about 400 m east along Futaba-dori, then right at the Wakakusacho-Higashi signal; about nine minutes) and Orix Safety Plaza Atago SS Counter (ten minutes).
  • South exit: Nippon South Exit (three minutes east) and Nico Nico South Exit (from the roundabout, east along Oozu-dori, three minutes; not on Prefectural Road 37).
  • From the Shinkansen gates: Eki Rent-a-Car (go down to the first floor, leave the station and go about 80 m right).

Some branches split reception and car pickup. At Nippon Shinkansen Exit, take a numbered ticket at the reception counter, then ride the shuttle to the pickup and return branch at 19-3 Wakakusacho (three to five minutes). At Toyota, complete the paperwork at the hotel counter and collect the car 80 m to the south-east. At Times, check in at the first-floor branch and leave from the basement car park.

Orix Safety Plaza Atago SS Counter is a reception inside a petrol station. No cars are kept there, and one is prepared for your booked time. Returns to other branches are not available.

Return to the car branch, not the reception counter

Nippon Shinkansen Exit cars go back to the pickup and return branch at 19-3 Wakakusacho, using return MAPCODE 22 223 212*55. Do not enter the reception counter at 14-24 Wakakusacho in the navigation system. Toyota cars also go back to the Hiroshima Shinkansen Exit branch at 22-9 Wakakusacho, not to the Sheraton counter. Times cars go back to the basement car park.

Closing times run from 19:00 to 21:00, depending on the branch. Nippon on the south side is open until 21:00, but if you rent on the Shinkansen side and return on the south side, name it as the return branch when you book. Cars rented elsewhere can return to Nippon Shinkansen Exit only in kei, passenger car, wagon, van and kei truck classes.

Over New Year, Nippon Shinkansen Exit is open 09:00–18:00 from 31 December 2026 to 3 January 2027. Other branches vary, so check the calendar for your dates.

Rent only on the days you leave Hiroshima city

If you sightsee and stay in the city centre before heading out, compare renting at Hiroshima Station the next morning. Against picking up at the airport, quote parking, rental hours and the fare into the city on the same basis. A branch on the same side as your hotel (north or south) also means less carrying of luggage.

When you take a Shinkansen home, do not leave the return too late just because the north-side reception is close. Choose a train after adding refuelling, the return at the car branch, the shuttle or walk and the time to get through the station.
