Aichi has 21 rental branches: choosing by trip

Most people renting in Aichi choose between Nagoya Station, with 16 branches within about 1 km of the station, and Chubu Centrair International Airport, with five. Together they make 21 branches from eight companies.

This guide compares where each branch sits, closing times and return conditions, and rates on Japanese and foreign licences.

  • Flying in: all five Centrair companies are on the first floor of Access Plaza (the Multi Access Terminal). You walk there without waiting for a shuttle. Nippon, Toyota, Orix and Nissan close at 20:00, and Times at 19:00.
  • Arriving by Shinkansen: Nagoya Station has nine Toyota branches alone, including branches in the station buildings and the underground mall. On the Taiko-dori side (Shinkansen side), the closest are Toyota Nagoya Station Taiko-dori Exit (160 m north-west) and Guts (about 2.5 minutes on foot).
  • Early or late: at Nagoya Station, Guts opens 06:00–21:00, Toyota Taiko-dori Exit and J-net 07:00–21:00, and Nissan 08:00–21:00.
  • Renting at the station and returning at the airport: Toyota, Nippon and Orix have branches at both and accept returns from other branches. The Times airport branch also accepts cars rented elsewhere.
  • Keeping the cost down: on standard compact rates before discounts for a Japanese licence, Guts at ¥4,070 for 24 hours and Nico Nico at ¥5,610, both at Nagoya Station, are lowest. Guts includes no vehicle damage cover and limits you to 300 km per 24 hours. Among major companies, Toyota is lowest at ¥8,580, including at Centrair. Foreign-licence prices and eligibility differ; see the rates section.

The tables below list hours and one-way availability for all 21 branches, with links to their branch pages.

Nagoya Station and Chubu Centrair Airport compared

The two places differ in the number of branches and in what to watch for when you return.

  • Nagoya Station: branches are scattered around the exits. The station buildings have Toyota JR Central Towers and JR Towers Plaza, and the Sun Road underground mall has Toyota Meieki Underground Sun Road. The Taiko-dori side has Toyota Taiko-dori Exit and Shinkansen Exit, Guts, Orix, J-net, Nissan and Nippon Nagoya Station Shinkansen Exit. The Sakura-dori side has Nippon Nagoya Station Sakura-dori Exit, Toyota Nagoya Ekimae and Nico Nico. Vehicle-size limits differ by branch, and some do not accept cars rented elsewhere.
  • Chubu Centrair Airport: the five companies are together on the first floor of Access Plaza, and you walk there from the airport. The bridge onto the airport island is tolled. Aichi Prefectural Nagoya Airport (Komaki) is a different airport, so check the branch name when you book.

The Anshin W plan combines the deductible waiver with an NOC waiver.

The Chubu Centrair Airport branch is under the railway viaduct on the first floor of the Multi Access Terminal Building, and you can walk there without waiting for a shuttle. If you use Terminal 1 international flights, go to the international departures counter. If you use Terminal 2 or domestic flights, go straight to the branch.

Nagoya Station has nine branches, including JR Central Towers and JR Towers Plaza in the station buildings and Meieki Underground Sun Road in the underground mall. Meieki Underground Sun Road opens on weekdays only and is scheduled to close on 31 March 2027. Nagoya Station Taiko-dori Exit opens 07:00–21:00; the other eight Nagoya Station branches and Chubu Centrair Airport open 08:00–20:00.

Returns to branches in and outside the prefecture are accepted, but Meieki Underground Sun Road does not accept cars rented elsewhere. The two station-building branches do not handle vehicles on number 1 or 2 plates or 2.1 m or taller, so choose another branch for a large vehicle. The C1 compact standard rate is ¥8,580 for 24 hours on a Japanese licence. CDW alone leaves the NOC (¥20,000 or ¥50,000). The Anshin W Plan waives the NOC and also covers repair or replacement of a punctured tyre.

CDW and ECO are separate options for the accident excess and non-operation charge.

At Chubu Centrair Airport, take the lift on the south side of Access Plaza on the second floor down to the rental area on the first floor, complete the paperwork at the branch and leave from in front of it. To return, drive into the return area and settle up at the branch. You pay the airport bridge toll when entering the airport.

Nagoya Station has two branches. Nagoya Station Shinkansen Exit is 9 minutes on foot from the Taiko-dori Exit, and a shuttle runs from the pickup point on the first floor of Chisun Inn Nagoya, 6 minutes from the station. Nagoya Station Sakura-dori Exit is a 5-minute walk east. All three open daily 08:00–20:00, and Sakura-dori Exit opens 09:00–18:00 from 30 December 2026 to 3 January 2027.

For cars rented elsewhere, the airport accepts all classes, Shinkansen Exit accepts kei cars, passenger cars, wagons, vans and light trucks, and Sakura-dori Exit accepts none. The N-B compact standard rate is ¥8,910 for 24 hours. CDW does not remove the NOC; ECO is the separate scheme that waives it.

Orix Chubu Centrair Airport is connected to the airport; go to the information counter in Access Plaza on the second floor, and staff direct you to the branch on the first floor. It is not at Nagoya Airport (Komaki). Nagoya Shinkansen Exit is 6 minutes on foot from the Taiko-dori Exit of JR Nagoya Station. Both open daily 08:00–20:00.

Both take departures for and returns from other branches, excluding Hokkaido, Okinawa and outlying islands. Vehicles 468 cm or longer, 169 cm or wider or 196 cm or taller, and WD class or above (such as the Hiace Grand Cabin), cannot be used one way.

The SA compact standard rate is ¥9,900 for 24 hours. The Rental Anshin Pack (RAP) waives the NOC and covers puncture tyre costs up to ¥20,000. If you call at least an hour before your return time, an extension of up to one hour costs nothing extra.

Nagoya Ekimae is inside a petrol station (Apollo Station) about 300 m north along Meieki-dori from the Sakura-dori Exit, right beside exit L2 of the Lucent Avenue underground walkway. It is about 5 minutes from Nagoya Station and opens daily 08:00–20:00, with no shuttle. Nico Nico has no branch at Chubu Centrair Airport.

The S class standard rate is ¥5,610 for 24 hours and ¥5,610 for each further day. Basic CDW (¥1,100 a day) leaves the vehicle excess after a single-car accident; Perfect cover removes it. One-way rentals are generally not accepted. If you pay in cash, you need one more form of identification besides your driving licence, and a health insurance card does not count.

J-net Rent a Car (J3) ¥10,450 ¥8,800 ¥1,100 ¥21,450 ¥23,650 —

On a foreign licence, Toyota uses a separate rate list: C1 is ¥10,340 for the first 24 hours and ¥8,690 for each additional 24 hours, against ¥8,580 and ¥7,260 in the table. To rent on a foreign licence, bring an International Driving Permit issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention and your passport, or, for licences from Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Monaco or Taiwan, the licence with a Japanese translation and your passport.

Nico Nico requires the renter to complete the contract in Japanese, without an interpreter or translation app, and some branches do not accept an IDP; Guts generally does not rent on an IDP.

The bridge toll for driving onto the Centrair island is not included.

The cover names and prices that remove the NOC are compared in CDW and NOC.

Pickup and return in Aichi

Returning at Chubu Centrair Airport

Nippon, Toyota, Orix and Nissan close at 20:00, and Times at 19:00. Times asks for returns 3 hours before international flights and 1 hour 30 minutes before domestic ones. At Nippon you drive into the return area and then settle up at the branch, so plan around when you finish the paperwork, not when you reach the airport island.

Returning at Nagoya Station

Vehicle-size limits differ by branch. Toyota JR Central Towers and JR Towers Plaza do not handle vehicles on number 1 or 2 plates or 2.1 m or taller, and Yanagibashi does not handle vehicles on number 1 or 2 plates or 2.3 m or taller. Nippon Sakura-dori Exit does not handle full-size wagons or aluminium-body trucks of 2 tonnes or more, and Nissan does not handle trucks or minibuses. To return to Toyota's two station-building branches, enter the MAPCODE given by the branch in the navigation system and head for the car park. On the day you take a Shinkansen home, allow time for refuelling, the car park, the return inspection and the walk to the ticket gate.

Renting at Nagoya Station and returning at the airport

Name the airport branch as your return branch when you book. Orix excludes large vehicles from one-way use, so if you want to return a large wagon at the airport, check that it is allowed before booking. One-way fees depend on the company. Nippon and Orix charge nothing when the branches are less than 20 km apart. The Japan rental-company comparison explains the differences between companies.

Staying in Nagoya or heading for Chita

If you head for the Chita Peninsula on your arrival day, collecting at the airport and leaving straight away is an option. If you spend time in central Nagoya first, compare transferring to the city and renting near Nagoya Station the next day. Include the bridge toll, hotel parking and the transport you would otherwise pay for.

Frequently asked questions

Should I rent at Nagoya Station or Chubu Centrair Airport?

Centrair suits you if you land and head straight for the Chita Peninsula or similar areas. Nagoya Station suits a Shinkansen arrival or the day after a night in Nagoya. The airport's five companies are together on the first floor of Access Plaza; at Nagoya Station, the closest branch depends on the exit.

Which company has the lowest rate?

On standard compact rates before discounts for a Japanese licence, Guts at ¥4,070 for 24 hours and Nico Nico at ¥5,610, both at Nagoya Station, are lowest. Guts includes no vehicle damage cover and limits you to 300 km per 24 hours. Toyota is lowest among the major companies at ¥8,580. Member and online discounts change the price in the booking, so compare the same dates, class and cover.

Can I rent at Nagoya Station and return at Chubu Centrair Airport?

Toyota, Nippon and Orix accept returns to other branches, and the Times airport branch also accepts cars rented elsewhere. Orix does not allow large vehicles one way. A one-way option is not always free, so name the return branch in the booking and check the amount.

Can I rent early or late?

At Nagoya Station, Guts opens 06:00–21:00, Toyota Taiko-dori Exit and J-net 07:00–21:00, and Nissan 08:00–21:00. At Centrair, the latest closing is 20:00, and Nissan does not help outside opening hours even if your flight is delayed; it deals with you on the next business day.

Are Nagoya Airport and Centrair the same?

No, they are different airports. Orix also warns that its branch is not at Nagoya Airport (Komaki). Match the airport on your ticket to the branch name you book.

Can I use Toyota's branch in the Sun Road underground mall?

On weekdays only. Toyota Meieki Underground Sun Road has closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays since January 2025, and is scheduled to close on 31 March 2027. It takes no bookings from 1 April 2027 onward. You also cannot return a car rented elsewhere there.
