Sixteen rental branches at Nagoya Station: how to choose

Nagoya Station has sixteen rental branches from seven companies within about 1 km. Toyota has nine and Nippon has two. Some are inside the station buildings and the underground malls, and the nearest branch depends on whether you leave by the Taiko-dori (Shinkansen) side or the Sakura-dori side.

This page compares each branch's address, hours, walking route and rules on one-way returns, with reference prices and the size limits to check.

  • A short walk: Toyota has two branches in the station buildings (JR Central Towers on B2 of the hotel car park, and JR Towers Plaza on floor 12 of the Towers car park) and one in the Sun Road underground mall. On the Taiko-dori side, Toyota Taiko-dori Exit (160 m north-west) and Guts (about two and a half minutes) are closest.
  • Early or late: Guts is open 06:00–21:00, Toyota Taiko-dori Exit and J-net 07:00–21:00, and Nissan 08:00–21:00. The others are open 08:00–20:00.
  • Returning at another branch: eight Toyota branches, Nippon Shinkansen Exit and Orix handle returns to other branches. Nippon Sakura-dori Exit and Toyota Meieki Underground Sun Road do not accept cars rented elsewhere.
  • Weekdays only: Toyota Meieki Underground Sun Road has closed on weekends and holidays since January 2025, and is scheduled to close permanently on 31 March 2027.
  • A lower base rate: on the Japanese-licence standard rates before discounts, Toyota is lowest among the large companies at ¥8,580 for a compact car for 24 hours. Among smaller companies, Guts is ¥4,070 and Nico Nico ¥5,610. Guts includes no vehicle damage cover and limits mileage to 300 km per 24 hours. At Nico Nico, CDW does not waive the vehicle excess after a single-car accident.

Branch names link to each branch's own page, where you can see the map and book. The numbers only identify branches and are not a ranking. All are within about 1 km of the station.

Toyota, Orix and Nissan lend ETC cards for expressway tolls. Guts lends them too, for rentals of up to three days (¥550, plus ¥550 per 24 hours for the ETC reader). Nippon, Nico Nico and J-net pages do not cover ETC cards, so ask when you book. Guts does not normally rent on an International Driving Permit (IDP). At Nico Nico, an IDP holder must handle the contract in Japanese without an interpreter or translation app, and acceptance varies by branch.

Reference rates at seven companies

These are compact-car standard rates: regular season, tax included, before discounts, on a Japanese driving licence. The 48-hour total is the first 24 hours, one further day and two days of basic collision damage waiver (CDW). Guts does not publish a further-day rate.

Company and class First 24 hours Each further 24 hours Basic CDW per day 48 hours with basic CDW Minivan (7–8 seats), 24 hours
Guts C-1 (Vitz, March, Fit) ¥4,070 Not published ¥1,100 Not published ¥8,580

J-net J3 (Yaris, Fit, Mazda2) ¥10,450 ¥8,800 ¥1,100 ¥21,450 ¥23,650

With a foreign licence, Toyota has a separate list: C1 is ¥10,340 for the first 24 hours and ¥8,690 for each further 24 hours, before optional cover. Get a quote for your own licence and dates at the other companies, because these figures are not a visitor quote.

Read the driving licence guide before you book, and the CDW and NOC guide to see what basic cover leaves you paying.

Choose the branch near your station exit

The nearest branch depends on whether you leave on the Taiko-dori (Shinkansen) side or the Sakura-dori side. A branch on the same side as your hotel or your next destination saves crossing the station.

  • Inside the station buildings and mall: Toyota JR Central Towers (B2 of the Nagoya Marriott Associa Hotel car park), Toyota JR Towers Plaza (go left, or north, from the Sakura-dori Exit and take the Towers car park lift at the end to floor 12), and Toyota Meieki Underground Sun Road (before Midland Square connection 3; weekdays only).
  • Taiko-dori Exit: Toyota Taiko-dori Exit (160 m north-west, one minute from the junction), Guts (about two and a half minutes), Toyota Shinkansen Exit (left, or south, five minutes), Orix (six minutes), J-net (with your back to the tracks go right and along them, seven minutes), Nissan (near Oise-dori junction, eight minutes) and Nippon Shinkansen Exit (nine minutes).
  • Sakura-dori Exit: Nippon Sakura-dori Exit (five minutes east; just up the stairs from Unimall exits U10 or U12), Toyota Nagoya Ekimae (five minutes east along Sakura-dori; beside Unimall exit 7) and Nico Nico (about 300 m north along Meieki-dori, about five minutes; beside exit L2 of the Lucent Avenue underpass).
  • Further out: Toyota Meieki Sasashima (south of the station, 80 m west of Sasashima junction), Toyota Nagoya Ushijima (about 800 m north along Meieki-dori; from Kamejima subway exit 3, 150 m east and then 150 m after turning right at Noritake-Shinmachi) and Toyota Yanagibashi (50 m south of Yanagibashi junction on Hirokoji-dori, about 800 m from the station centre).

Nippon Shinkansen Exit is a nine-minute walk. If you prefer, a shuttle runs from the pickup point on the first floor of the Chisun Inn Nagoya hotel, six minutes on foot from the station. The shuttle can be delayed by vehicle availability and traffic, and you must still walk to the pickup point, so it may not be quicker than walking.

An unattended Nagoya Station Smart Counter is near J-net, at a different location from J-net Nagoya Ekimae. "Shinkansen Exit" or "Ekimae" in a branch name does not always mean right by the ticket gates, so check the branch name and address before setting off.

Check closing times and accepted vehicles before returning

Most branches close at 20:00. Toyota Taiko-dori Exit, Nissan, Guts and J-net close at 21:00. Over New Year, Toyota JR Towers Plaza, Nagoya Ushijima, Yanagibashi and Meieki Underground Sun Road are open 09:00–18:00 on 31 December, closed on 1–3 January and open from 12:00 on 4 January. Toyota Meieki Sasashima is open 09:00–18:00 on 31 December and 1–3 January. Nippon Sakura-dori Exit is open 09:00–18:00 from 30 December 2026 to 3 January 2027.

If you return a car rented elsewhere, choose a branch that accepts it. Nippon Sakura-dori Exit and Toyota Meieki Underground Sun Road do not. Orix excludes vehicles 468 cm long, 169 cm wide or 196 cm tall and above from one-way rentals.

Size limits vary by branch. Toyota JR Central Towers and JR Towers Plaza exclude registration classifications 1 and 2 and vehicles 2.1 m or taller. Yanagibashi excludes classifications 1 and 2 and vehicles 2.3 m or taller. Meieki Underground Sun Road excludes classifications 1 and 2 and high-roof vehicles. Nippon Sakura-dori Exit excludes full-size wagons and 2 t aluminium trucks and above, and Nissan excludes trucks and microbuses. For a group needing a large car, first check which branch can supply it, then think about distance from the station.

When driving back to Toyota JR Central Towers, enter return MAPCODE 4316010*71. For JR Towers Plaza, enter MAPCODE 4316421*51 and drive up to floor 12 of the Towers car park. If you are catching a Shinkansen, allow time for refuelling, entering and leaving the car park, the return inspection and the walk to the gates.

Compare renting after a night in Nagoya with airport pickup

If you spend your arrival day in Nagoya and head out of the city the next day, compare renting at the station for a shorter period. Against renting at Chubu Centrair Airport, the differences are the transfer into the city, the airport bridge toll, hotel parking and paying for a car overnight when you are not using it.

On a day with a Shinkansen home, add refuelling and return time to your arrival time at the station. One-way streets and car-park entrances around the station can take time. Set your navigation destination the day before, so you are not searching for a hotel basement car park or a shuttle point just before you return the car.
