Seven rental branches at Miyazaki Station: how to choose
Miyazaki Station is the main JR station in Miyazaki City, on the Pacific coast of Kyushu. It has seven rental branches from seven companies. Five are on the west side and Guts is on the east side, all a walk away. J-Net Miyazaki Chuo is near the station and collects you from the station or a city hotel.
This page compares each branch's address, hours, access and one-way rules, with reference prices and what to check before a coastal drive.
- Right by the station: Nippon is one minute from the West Exit. Guts, on the east side, is three minutes. Toyota Miyazaki and Times are about five minutes from the West Exit.
- A lift from the station: Toyota Miyazaki runs a shuttle to the station 08:00–18:00, and J-Net Miyazaki Chuo 10:00–17:00.
- Returning in the evening: Nippon, Toyota and Nico Nico close latest, at 20:00 (Toyota at 19:00 on 31 December). Times closes at 18:00.
- Returning at another branch: Nippon, Toyota and Orix take returns at other branches.
- A lower base rate: on the Japanese-licence standard rates before discounts, Toyota is lowest among the large companies at ¥8,580 for a compact car for 24 hours. Among smaller companies, Guts is ¥4,070 and Nico Nico ¥5,610. Guts includes no vehicle damage cover and limits mileage to 300 km per 24 hours.

Branch names link to each branch's own page, where you can see the map and book. The numbers only identify branches and are not a ranking.

Toyota and Orix lend ETC cards for expressway tolls, and Nico Nico rents them for ¥330. Times does not, and some of its cars have no ETC reader. Guts cars have an ETC reader. The Nippon and J-Net pages do not cover ETC cards, so ask when you book. At Nico Nico, you can rent on an International Driving Permit (IDP) with the permit and your original passport, a Japanese address and a mobile number you can take calls on. The contract is in Japanese only, with no interpreter or translation app. Guts generally does not rent on an IDP.
Reference rates at seven companies
These are compact-car standard rates: regular season, tax included, before discounts, on a Japanese driving licence. The 48-hour total is the first 24 hours, one further day and two days of basic collision damage waiver (CDW). Guts does not publish a further-day rate.
| Company and class | First 24 hours | Each further 24 hours | Basic CDW per day | 48 hours with basic CDW | Minivan (7–8 seats), 24 hours |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Guts C-1 (Vitz, March, Fit) | ¥4,070 | Not published | ¥1,100 | Not published | ¥8,580 |

| J-Net J3 (Yaris, Fit, Mazda2) | ¥10,450 | ¥8,800 | ¥1,100 | ¥21,450 | ¥23,650 |
With a foreign licence, Toyota has a separate list: C1 is ¥10,340 for the first 24 hours and ¥8,690 for each further 24 hours, before optional cover. Get a quote for your own licence and dates at the other companies, because these figures are not a visitor quote.
Read the driving licence guide before you book, and the CDW and NOC guide to see what basic cover leaves you paying.
Choose the branch near your station exit
Most branches are on the west side. If you collect luggage from your hotel before going to the branch, include the route from the hotel in your choice.
- West Exit: Nippon (right along the road ahead, one minute), Toyota Miyazaki (south along Prefectural Road 341, five minutes), Times (about five minutes), Nico Nico Miyazaki Miyatacho (about 80 m to the Miyazaki-Eki junction and left, about 300 m and right, then about 400 m to the Cosmo petrol station on the left, diagonally opposite the Miyazaki Tax Office; about eight minutes) and Orix Miyazaki Tachibanadori (eight minutes, about 889 m).
- East Exit: Guts (east side of the station, three minutes).
- Collected from the station: J-Net Miyazaki Chuo is near the station in Ehirahigashi and runs a shuttle to Miyazaki Station and city hotels, 10:00–17:00. The branch gives no walking time from the station, so confirm the pickup point and any fee when you book. Toyota Miyazaki also runs a free shuttle to the station, 08:00–18:00.
Toyota's branch is called "Miyazaki", but it is five minutes on foot from Miyazaki Station. It is not the Miyazaki Airport branch, so open your map using the full branch name and address.
Watch New Year's Eve closing and returns at the airport
Closing times range from 18:00 to 20:00. Times closes at 18:00, Orix, J-Net and Guts at 19:00, and Nippon, Toyota and Nico Nico at 20:00. Toyota Miyazaki closes at 19:00 on 31 December, and J-Net opens 08:30–17:30 from 1 to 3 January 2027. At any branch, allow time to refuel, return the car and walk to the station before you go through the ticket gate. Nippon's return MAPCODE is 66 291 539*57.
To rent at the station and return at Miyazaki Airport, name the same company's airport branch as the return point. This does not mean a branch near the station drives you to the airport after you hand the car back. Compare the one-way fee and the shuttle from the airport branch to the terminal as part of your plan.
Stay in the city, then head for Aoshima and Nichinan
If you spend the first night in Miyazaki City and head for the coast the next day, you can compare renting at the station the next morning. Count the rental charge and parking if you keep a car from the airport, and the transfer from the airport to the city. Moving to the branch with your luggage is part of the decision too.
On winter trips that include mountain roads, a warm city does not tell you the conditions on the road ahead. Check first that your booking can include winter tyres or chains, and change the vehicle, branch or route if it cannot.
