Eleven rental branches at Shin-Osaka Station: how to choose

Shin-Osaka Station has eleven rental branches from eight companies. Toyota alone has four. The nearest branch depends on whether you leave by the north, main or east exit, or by a subway exit.

This page compares each branch's address, hours, walking route and rules on one-way returns, with reference prices and the size limits to check.

  • Late night or early morning: Nissan Shin-Osaka Shinkansen Ekimae shows 24-hour opening. Sky Shin-Osaka East Exit is open 07:00–22:00.
  • A short walk: Toyota Shinkansen Exit is right outside the north exit, Eki Rent-a-Car is at the foot of the south exit stairs and Budget is one minute from the east exit.
  • A large car: among Toyota's branches, Shin-Osaka Ekimae handles vehicles 2 m or taller, trucks and buses.
  • Returning at another branch: Nippon, all four Toyota branches, Orix and Eki Rent-a-Car handle returns to other branches.
  • A lower base rate: on the Japanese-licence standard rates before discounts, Eki Rent-a-Car is lowest among the large companies at ¥8,470 for a compact car for 24 hours. Nico Nico is ¥5,610.

Reference rates at eight companies

These are compact-car standard rates: regular season, tax included, before discounts, on a Japanese driving licence. The 48-hour total is the first 24 hours, one further day and two days of basic collision damage waiver (CDW).

Company and class First 24 hours Each further 24 hours Basic CDW per day 48 hours with basic CDW Minivan (7–8 seats), 24 hours

Orix SA (Fit, Note 1.2) ¥9,900 ¥7,920 ¥1,100 ¥20,020 ¥22,660

With a foreign licence, Toyota has a separate list: C1 is ¥10,340 for the first 24 hours and ¥8,690 for each further 24 hours, before optional cover. Get a quote for your own licence and dates at the other companies, because these figures are not a visitor quote. Nico Nico's basic CDW does not waive the vehicle excess after a single-car accident.

Read the driving licence guide before you book, and the CDW and NOC guide to see what basic cover leaves you paying.

Choose the branch near your station exit

The nearest branch depends on which exit you use.

  • JR north exit: Toyota Shinkansen Exit (right outside), Nippon (seven minutes west), and Nico Nico North (about 200 m along the tracks from the Hankyu bus terminal, about four minutes).
  • JR main exit and subway exit 7: Toyota Main Exit and Nissan are right beside subway exit 7.
  • JR east exit: Budget (second floor of the East Exit Station Building, one minute) and Sky (two minutes).
  • Station south exit: Eki Rent-a-Car is on the right of the first floor, at the foot of the stairs.
  • Further out: Toyota Shin-Osaka Ekimae (seven minutes from subway exit 4), Toyota Shin-Osaka (about nine minutes) and Orix (seven minutes from the west exit).

Nippon has a reception counter on the first floor of Shin-Osaka Hankyu Building, directly linked to the north exit, with a shuttle to its Nishimiyahara branch. The counter is staffed 08:00–17:00. Outside those hours, call the branch from in front of the counter. You collect the car at the branch.

The counter is closed for refurbishment from 1 to 4 December 2026, so you cannot complete paperwork there. The shuttle runs as usual, and staff in front of the counter direct you to it from 08:00 to 17:00.

Branches with a separate return point, and size limits

Budget Shin-Osaka East Exit has separate branches for pickup and return. You return to the return-only branch at 1-2-64 Nishiawaji, Higashiyodogawa Ward. Refuel to full within 5 km before returning, and show the receipt. Do not set the rental branch as your navigation destination.

Toyota Shinkansen Exit does not handle vehicles over 2 m, buses or trucks. For a group needing a large car, first check which branch can supply it, then think about distance from the station. This branch also cannot store your own car while you rent.

Frequently asked questions
