Ten rental branches in Matsuyama: how to choose

Matsuyama is the largest city in Ehime Prefecture, on the west side of Shikoku. Its centre has ten rental branches from seven companies in this comparison. Eight are a walk from JR Matsuyama Station, Iyotetsu's Matsuyama-shi Station or Okaido. The other two, Heisei Matsuyama Airport and Nico Nico Matsuyama Hiratamachi, are away from the centre and collect you from a station or hotel.

This page compares each branch's address, hours, access and one-way rules, with reference prices. JR Matsuyama Station and Matsuyama-shi Station are different stations, so start from the one nearer your hotel.

  • Renting at JR Matsuyama Station: Nippon Matsuyama Ekimae (about 3 minutes from the East Exit), Orix (4 minutes), Toyota (5 minutes north) and Guts (10 minutes). Eki Rent-a-Car, inside the station, reopened on 1 November 2026 after closing on 25 May.
  • Renting at the weekend: Nissan Matsuyama-shi Ekimae opens on weekdays only and closes on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Guts closes on Sundays.
  • Returning in the evening: Nippon, Toyota and Nico Nico (Fujiwaramachi and Heiwadori) close at 20:00. Orix, Nissan and Guts close at 19:00, and Heisei at 18:00.
  • Returning at another branch: Nippon Matsuyama Ekimae, Toyota and Orix take returns at other branches. Nippon Matsuyama Okaido accepts cars rented elsewhere only if they are kei cars, passenger cars up to five seats, kei trucks or light vans.
  • A lower base rate: on the Japanese-licence standard rates before discounts, Toyota is the lowest of the large companies in the table at ¥8,580 for a compact car for 24 hours, and Eki Rent-a-Car lists ¥8,470. Among smaller companies, Guts is ¥4,070, Nico Nico ¥5,610 and Heisei ¥7,700. Guts includes no vehicle damage cover and limits mileage to 300 km per 24 hours.

Compare the ten Matsuyama branches

Branch names link to each branch's own page, where you can see the map and book. The numbers only identify branches and are not a ranking. Heisei Matsuyama Airport and Nico Nico Matsuyama Hiratamachi also serve Matsuyama Airport.

Reference rates at seven companies

These are compact-car standard rates: regular season, tax included, before discounts, on a Japanese driving licence. The 48-hour total is the first 24 hours, one further day and two days of basic collision damage waiver (CDW). Guts does not publish a further-day rate.

Company and class First 24 hours Each further 24 hours Basic CDW per day 48 hours with basic CDW Minivan (7–8 seats), 24 hours
Guts C-1 (Vitz, March, Fit) ¥4,070 Not published ¥1,100 Not published ¥8,580

Heisei S1 (Fit, Yaris, Swift, Roomy) ¥7,700 ¥6,600 ¥1,100 ¥16,500 ¥18,334
Toyota C1 (Yaris, Passo) ¥8,580 ¥7,260 ¥1,100 ¥18,040 ¥20,900

Orix SA (Fit, Note 1.2) ¥9,900 ¥7,920 ¥1,100 ¥20,020 ¥22,660

Eki Rent-a-Car's S class (Fit, Yaris) is ¥8,470 for the first 24 hours and ¥7,150 for each further 24 hours. With ¥1,100 a day of basic CDW, 48 hours comes to ¥17,820.

With a foreign licence, Toyota has a separate list: C1 is ¥10,340 for the first 24 hours and ¥8,690 for each further 24 hours, before optional cover. Get a quote for your own licence and dates at the other companies, because these figures are not a visitor quote.

Read the driving licence guide before you book, and the CDW and NOC guide to see what basic cover leaves you paying.

Choose a branch by your nearest station

The nearest branch depends on whether your hotel is close to JR Matsuyama Station, Matsuyama-shi Station or Okaido.

  • JR Matsuyama Station: Nippon Matsuyama Ekimae (right from the East Exit, about three minutes), Orix Matsuyama Ekimae (four minutes; its address is in Sanbancho 8-chome), Toyota Matsuyama (five minutes north along the Matsuyama-ko Line, in the Aioi Sompo Matsuyama Building), Guts Matsuyama Ekimae (Minami-Edo, west of the station, ten minutes) and Eki Rent-a-Car (inside the station).
  • Iyotetsu Matsuyama-shi Station: Nissan Matsuyama-shi Ekimae (five minutes west) and Nico Nico Matsuyama Fujiwaramachi (right from the South Exit for about 300 m, then left at the Kita-Fujiwara junction for about 400 m to the Apollostation; about nine minutes).
  • Okaido and the tram line: Nippon Matsuyama Okaido (three minutes from Okaido tram stop) and Nico Nico Matsuyama Heiwadori (one minute south of Teppocho tram stop, then right at the Heiwadori 3-chome junction for about 150 m, at the Cosmo petrol station).
  • Collected from the station or hotel: Heisei (from the temporary rotary at JR Matsuyama Station's West Exit to the branch beside Matsuyama Airport, 10–15 minutes; ask when you book, direct bookings only) and Nico Nico Matsuyama Hiratamachi (from city stations, hotels and bus stops, for rentals of 24 hours or more; telephone 090-9779-6618 by the day before; first come, first served).

Toyota Matsuyama also runs a shuttle to city hotels and Matsuyama Sightseeing Port; book by the day before. None of the ten branches is near Dogo Onsen. If you stay in Dogo, the candidates are an Okaido branch or a branch with a hotel shuttle.

Nippon Matsuyama Okaido finished rebuilding and has been back at its original address (2-5-18 Ichibancho) since 23 December 2025. Do not head for the temporary branch's address.

Check closing days and times before you return

Nissan Matsuyama-shi Ekimae opens on weekdays only and closes on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Over New Year it also closes from 28 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, so it does not suit a weekend trip. Guts Matsuyama Ekimae closes on Sundays. Nico Nico Matsuyama Heiwadori lists daily opening, but its branch page also mentions Tuesday closing. Ask the branch before a Tuesday rental.

Some branches close early over New Year. Toyota closes at 17:00 from 30 December to 2 January and at 16:00 on 3 January. Nippon Matsuyama Ekimae opens 09:00–18:00 on 31 December 2026 and 1 January 2027, and Nippon Matsuyama Okaido 08:00–18:00 on the same days. Heisei drives you back to JR Matsuyama Station after a return only between 09:00 and 17:00.

Nippon Matsuyama Okaido accepts cars rented elsewhere only if they are kei cars, passenger cars up to five seats, kei trucks or light vans. You cannot rent a 7–8-seat wagon at the airport and return it to Okaido. Compare other return points, such as the branches near JR Matsuyama Station, with the vehicle class specified.

Separate central Matsuyama days from drives out of the city

If you stay in central Matsuyama or Dogo first and then head out, you can compare renting only for the days you need a car. Count the overnight rental charge and parking if you keep a car from the airport, and the transfer from the airport to your hotel. A branch close to your hotel also shortens the walk with luggage.

If you return one-way at the airport and fly out, check the address of the Matsuyama Airport branch and its shuttle to the terminal separately. A city branch does not necessarily drive you to the airport after a return. Think of the driving part and the public-transport part as separate legs.
