Six rental branches at Mishima Station: how to choose

Mishima Station in Shizuoka Prefecture is a Tokaido Shinkansen stop at the entrance to the Izu Peninsula. It has six rental branches from six companies. Toyota and Nissan are on the north (Shinkansen) side. Nippon, J-Net and Guts are on the south side. You can walk to these five. Orix Mishima is 1.2 km from the station, with a free shuttle from the North Exit.

This page compares each branch's address, hours, access and one-way rules, with reference prices and what to check before an Izu trip.

  • Right by the station: Nissan is straight out of the North Exit, Nippon is one minute from the South Exit, and Toyota is two minutes from the North Exit Shinkansen gate.
  • Early pickup or evening return: Nippon, Toyota, Nissan and J-Net open 08:00–20:00. Orix and Guts open at 09:00 and close at 19:00.
  • Returning at another branch: Nippon, Toyota and Orix take returns at other branches.
  • A lower base rate: on the Japanese-licence standard rates before discounts, Toyota is lowest among the large companies at ¥8,580 for a compact car for 24 hours. Guts is ¥4,070, but includes no vehicle damage cover and limits mileage to 300 km per 24 hours.
  • Renting on 12 November: Toyota Mishima Shinkansen Exit closes on this day.

Reference rates at six companies

These are compact-car standard rates: regular season, tax included, before discounts, on a Japanese driving licence. The 48-hour total is the first 24 hours, one further day and two days of basic collision damage waiver (CDW). Guts does not publish a further-day rate.

Company and class First 24 hours Each further 24 hours Basic CDW per day 48 hours with basic CDW Minivan (7–8 seats), 24 hours
Guts C-1 (Vitz, March, Fit) ¥4,070 Not published ¥1,100 Not published ¥8,580
Toyota C1 (Yaris, Passo) ¥8,580 ¥7,260 ¥1,100 ¥18,040 ¥20,900
Nippon N-B (Fit, Corolla) ¥8,910 ¥7,150 ¥1,100 ¥18,260 ¥22,550
Nissan P2 (March, Note) ¥9,790 ¥7,700 ¥1,650 ¥20,790 ¥24,090
Orix SA (Fit, Note 1.2) ¥9,900 ¥7,920 ¥1,100 ¥20,020 ¥22,660
J-Net J3 (Yaris, Fit, Mazda2) ¥10,450 ¥8,800 ¥1,100 ¥21,450 ¥23,650

With a foreign licence, Toyota has a separate list: C1 is ¥10,340 for the first 24 hours and ¥8,690 for each further 24 hours, before optional cover. Get a quote for your own licence and dates at the other companies, because these figures are not a visitor quote.

Read the driving licence guide before you book, and the CDW and NOC guide to see what basic cover leaves you paying.

Choose the branch near your station exit

The nearest branch depends on whether you leave by the north (Shinkansen) or south side. If you book a south-side branch and leave by the North Exit, you have to go round to the other side of the station. Check your branch's exit before you start walking with luggage.

  • North Exit (Shinkansen side): Nissan Mishima Shinkansen Exit (straight out of the exit) and Toyota Mishima Shinkansen Exit (right from the Shinkansen gate, two minutes along the tracks).
  • South Exit: Nippon Mishima Station South Exit (one minute, beside the South Exit terminal), J-Net Mishima Station South Exit (four minutes, first floor of the Izumi Building) and Guts Mishima Station South Exit (seven minutes).
  • Shuttle from the North Exit: Orix Mishima (in Nagaizumi, 1.2 km and 20 minutes on foot from the station). Call the branch when you reach the North Exit and staff collect you.

Nissan also has an unstaffed, rental-only branch (Mishima Ekimae) opposite the South Exit. To rent from a staffed branch, book Mishima Shinkansen Exit on the north side. J-Net bookings go through its partner Sky Rent a Car's website.

Check closing times and shuttle conditions for your return

Orix and Guts close earliest, at 19:00, and the other four at 20:00. Toyota closes on 12 November. Over New Year, Nissan opens 09:00–18:00 from 30 December 2026 to 4 January 2027. J-Net closes at 18:00 on 31 December 2026 and opens 09:00–18:00 from 1 to 3 January 2027, and Guts closes.

The Orix Mishima shuttle may not always be available. Do not rely on it in either direction, and allow for the 20-minute walk to the station. Ask at departure how you get back to the station after your return.

To return a car rented elsewhere at Mishima Station, choose a branch that accepts it. Nippon accepts kei and passenger cars, wagons, vans and kei trucks. Toyota handles one-way rentals inside and outside the prefecture, and Orix handles them except for Hokkaido, Okinawa and outlying islands.

On the way back from Izu, finish refuelling, entering the branch, the return check and moving your luggage before you head for the ticket gate. Even at a branch close to the station, avoid booking the last possible train.

Plan the move from the Shinkansen to Izu

Taking the train to Mishima and renting there can be compared with driving the whole way from home. Compare the Shinkansen fare, the local rental charge, parking and fuel. Also weigh how much long-distance driving at the start and end you avoid, and how many people can drive.

Depending on where you stay in Izu, you could also take the train further and rent there. Mark the places you want to visit on a map first, and check that renting and returning at Mishima does not add unnecessary back-tracking. Compare a return elsewhere with a quote that names the return branch and vehicle class.
