Five rental branches at Yokohama Station: how to choose

This guide compares five branches from five companies around Yokohama Station. Four are on the west side. Orix is inside the underground car park; Nippon, Nissan and Toyota are in Tsuruyacho, across the Katabira River from the north-west exit. One's is on the east side. Plan to walk from the station to these branches.

  • Early pickup or late return: Nippon Yokohama Station West Exit opens 7:00–22:00 daily. Toyota and Orix open 8:00–20:00. Nissan's staffed-hours field also gives 8:00–20:00, although another label says 24 hours; confirm any early or late arrangement. One's opens 8:00–19:30.
  • A short walk: Nippon is just across Tsuruya Bridge from the north-west exit, roughly one to three minutes away. One's is three minutes from the east exit. Orix is five minutes from the west exit, on level B2 of the underground car park.
  • A one-way rental: Nippon accepts incoming returns in all classes. Toyota and Orix also handle one-way rentals, subject to the restrictions below. For Nissan, check that the return branch you want is available in the booking.
  • A lower base rate: Toyota C1 is ¥8,580 for 24 hours on the Japanese-licence reference schedule, the lowest of the four major companies compared here. One's lists a branch-specific general M-class rate of ¥5,445. It uses mainly used cars and requires a credit card on your first rental. Match licence eligibility, coverage and the car class before comparing quotes.

Compare the five Yokohama branches

Branch names link to their official pages for location details and booking. The numbers identify the branches rather than rank them.

Reference rates at five companies

The four major-company rows use regular-season, tax-inclusive standard rates before discounts on the Japanese-licence basis. The 48-hour total is the first 24 hours plus one additional day and two days of basic CDW. Toyota uses separate foreign-licence pricing. Use these figures to understand the cost components, then obtain a quote for your actual licence and dates.

For a foreign-licence booking, Toyota C1's regular base rate is ¥10,340 for the first 24 hours and ¥8,690 for each additional 24 hours, before optional coverage. The Toyota row below uses the separate Japanese-licence rates of ¥8,580 and ¥7,260.

Company and class First 24 hours Additional day Basic CDW per day 48 hours with basic CDW
Toyota C1 ¥8,580 ¥7,260 ¥1,100 ¥18,040
Nippon N-B ¥8,910 ¥7,150 ¥1,100 ¥18,260
Orix SA ¥9,900 ¥7,920 ¥1,100 ¥20,020
Nissan P2 ¥9,790 ¥7,700 ¥1,650 ¥20,790

One's Yokohama East Exit publishes a separate M-class branch rate: ¥5,445 for 24 hours at the general rate, or ¥4,840 for members. Request a quote for additional days and coverage. Its high-season surcharge is ¥1,650 per 24 hours, including December 26, 2026–January 3, 2027. The branch is closed December 31–January 2 within that period.

Basic CDW and NOC coverage are different products; compare what remains payable after an accident in the rental-company guide.

Choose the branch near your station exit

The east and west exits lead into different parts of Yokohama. On the west side, the north-west exit, underground shopping passages and underground car park require different approaches.

  • North-west exit: for Nippon, cross Tsuruya Bridge and continue straight, about one to three minutes on foot.
  • West-side underground passages: for Nissan, use exit North 9 and head towards Tsuruyacho 3-chome junction. The branch is on the right, on the ground floor of Yokohama Station West Exit No. 2 Car Park.
  • Tsuruyacho from the west side: Toyota Central West Exit is a six-minute walk.
  • West-exit underground car park: for Orix, take the stairs at the Kita Ichiban entrance in front of Yokohama More's down to B2. The walk is about five minutes. Eki Rent-a-Car's Yokohama counter is inside Orix, with a separate Eki reservation.
  • East exit: One's is a three-minute walk away in Takashima 2-chome.

If you arrive on the east side and rent on the west, allow time to cross the station. Nippon, Nissan and Toyota are all in Tsuruyacho, but the directions to each branch differ.

Returning the car: MAPCODE and height limits

Enter the branch's return MAPCODE in the navigation system: 8 765 750*57 for Nippon, or 2179767*46 for Toyota. Orix's Kita Ichiban stairway is the pedestrian approach; confirm the vehicle entrance before returning.

Nissan cannot collect or return vehicles 2 m 20 cm tall or higher. Orix excludes vehicles 200 cm tall or higher and WD class or above from one-way use. Toyota excludes vehicles in Japanese registration classifications 1 and 2 from one-way rentals at this branch.

Nippon closes latest, at 22:00. Toyota and Orix close at 20:00; Nissan's staffed-hours field also gives 20:00, and One's closes at 19:30. Toyota closes at 18:00 on December 31 and January 2–3, and is closed on January 1. One's closes December 31–January 2.

Rent when you leave Yokohama for the coast

If you spend the first part of a trip in central Yokohama and head towards Miura the next day, compare renting only for the days outside the city. This can avoid hotel parking charges and paying for a car overnight while it sits unused. Weigh that saving against carrying luggage to the branch. If arriving by air, compare pickup at Haneda with taking the train to Yokohama and renting later.

For several travellers with large bags, check both luggage capacity and the height limits at branches inside car parks. Choose the class after counting bags, rather than by seat count alone. One's Yokohama East Exit does not provide winter tyres; for a trip into snowy areas, arrange suitable tyres with another branch.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a rental branch at the east exit?

Yes. One's Yokohama Station East Exit is a three-minute walk away. The other four branches compared here are on the west side.

Which branch stays open latest?

Nippon Yokohama Station West Exit opens until 22:00. Toyota and Orix close at 20:00, and One's at 19:30. Nissan's page has both a 24-hour label and a staffed-hours field of 8:00–20:00; confirm an early or late pickup or return with the branch.

What does a two-day rental cost?

For 48 hours in a compact car with basic CDW, the Japanese-licence reference totals are ¥18,040–¥20,790 at the four major companies compared here. Toyota is lowest on that basis at ¥18,040. One's has its own branch rates, so request the full two-day quote with coverage rather than multiplying a national rate. Foreign-licence and high-season prices may differ.

Is there an Eki Rent-a-Car counter at Yokohama Station?

Yes, inside Orix Yokohama West Exit on B2 of the underground car park. Book with Eki Rent-a-Car separately. Its hours are 9:00–20:00, closing at 19:00 from December 31 to January 3.

Can I return a car rented at another branch?

Nippon accepts all classes. Toyota and Orix also handle one-way returns subject to conditions. For Nissan, check that your chosen return branch can be selected when booking. Orix excludes vehicles 200 cm or taller and WD class or above, and Toyota excludes registration classifications 1 and 2. Confirm the return arrangement with One's before booking.
