Ishigaki Airport has 32 rental branches: how to choose

Ishigaki Airport, also called New Ishigaki Airport or Painushima Ishigaki Airport, is on the east coast of Ishigaki Island in Okinawa. It is served by 32 rental branches from 30 companies. There is no rental branch inside the terminal. Leave by the main entrance and cross the pedestrian crossing to the rental shuttle area, and the companies take you to branches near the airport.

Getting into a car quickly: at Toyota, Nissan, Sky, J-Net, Fuji, Times, Ishigakijima Rent-a-Car and others, staff wait at the shuttle area. For Nico Nico, Budget, HV and Okinawa Premium, take the free bus that circulates to the Rental Car Station.
Walking: Honda Rent-a-Car Ishigakijima's New Ishigaki Airport branch is 5 minutes on foot, Nico Nico Ishigaki Airport 8 minutes, and Times Ishigaki Airport about 10 minutes from the central exit.
Arriving late or returning late: the latest closing times are 21:00 at Memorial and 20:30 at Chura. Chura also takes flights landing after 20:00 if you book by the day before. Times has closed at 18:00 since 1 November 2026.
Returning at the port or in town: Memorial accepts one-way returns at city hotels and the ferry terminal for outlying islands. Airport Rent-a-Car takes returns at its Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal branch (¥3,000 extra). The Toyota and Nippon airport branches do not accept cars rented elsewhere.
Keeping the cost down: on standard rates before discounts on a Japanese licence, Toyota and Budget are the cheapest larger companies at ¥8,580 for a compact for 24 hours. One's (¥4,400), Carsta (¥4,500), Nico Nico (¥5,610) and Fuji (¥7,600 for one night and two days, including basic CDW) also have branches near the airport.

Reference prices: standard rates at 14 companies

This table takes each company's published standard rate for a compact car, with the total including basic collision damage waiver (CDW). These are regular-season rates before discounts on a Japanese licence, unless a row says otherwise. Fuji's Ishigaki branch has different rates from Naha: ¥7,600 for one night and two days, then ¥3,700 a day, including basic CDW. Sky and J-Net's basic CDW is ¥1,650 a day in Okinawa. Many companies charge more in summer and during long holidays.

The 48-hour total is the first 24 hours, one additional day and two days of basic CDW. A dash means the company's rate table does not list that fee. Where basic CDW shows "Included", the rate already contains it. Extra hours, fuel, one-way fees and options such as child seats are not included.
Most companies offer member or online discounts, so the booking screen is often cheaper than this table. Peak periods such as Golden Week, Obon and New Year cost more. Enter your dates and class for the actual price.
One's uses mainly used cars and charges the same for compact and kei cars. Without road-service cover (¥880 a day), road service costs ¥27,500 per call. Rates vary by branch; M class at Kanazawa Station East Exit is ¥4,700 for 24 hours.
Carsta's rate table does not say whether tax is included. From the second day the charge is ¥2,250 per 12 hours, and new and hybrid cars cost 30% more.
Nico Nico's basic CDW does not waive the vehicle excess after a single-car accident.
Fuji charges by calendar day. The 24-hour figure is the one-night-two-day rate at its Naha branch, ¥6,900 (a same-day rental is ¥4,100, and from two nights and three days you add ¥2,900 a day). All plans include basic CDW, and the site's title says prices include consumption tax.
Fuji's Yaris and eight-seat wagon (Voxy, Delica D5) plans are for rental and return at its Naha branch only. At its Ishigaki branch the Yaris is ¥7,600 for one night and two days, then ¥3,700 a day.
Fuji's basic CDW does not waive the NOC (¥20,000 if the car can be driven, ¥50,000 if not). Its Anshin cover, ¥800 a day, waives the NOC.
Toyota has member discounts of 10% and 20%.
Budget has a web member price (10% off).
Sky's basic CDW varies by region: ¥1,320 in Hokkaido, ¥1,100 in Honshu and Shikoku, ¥1,430 in Kyushu and ¥1,650 in Okinawa. Members and prepayment each get 5% off.
Times has member rates of up to 20% off.
Nippon has a separate member rate table.
Nissan's basic CDW is calculated on the Standard Plan at ¥1,650 a day.
Orix has member discounts and a 5% web discount.
HV's base rate includes basic CDW and optional vehicle cover. The NOC is ¥20,000 if you drive the car back and ¥100,000 if it is towed; its NOC Wide cover is ¥1,000 a day plus tax.
HV's table shows standard prices marked "from", and says seasons or campaigns can make them lower. It does not say whether tax is included. The ¥23,100 minivan seats eight to ten (Delica D5, Hiace Grand Cabin).
J-Net's basic CDW (Anshin cover) is ¥1,650 a day in the Okinawa district only.
Honda Rent-a-Car Ishigakijima charges by calendar day. The 24-hour figure is the one-night-two-day rate, ¥13,200; a same-day rental (12 hours) is ¥6,600.
Honda Rent-a-Car Ishigakijima's rates include insurance and consumption tax, but it offers no CDW and nothing that waives the NOC. After an accident you pay the property and vehicle excess (¥50,000 each) and the NOC (¥33,000 if the car can be driven, ¥66,000 if not). High-season rates are not published; ask by email or phone.
Honda Rent-a-Car Ishigakijima's minivan (Step Wagon; eight seats) is ¥25,600 for one night and two days. Returning to the other of its two branches (city or New Ishigaki Airport) costs extra.

Prices differ by licence. The table uses the Japanese-licence rate. On a foreign licence, Toyota C1 is ¥10,340 for the first 24 hours and ¥8,690 for each additional 24 hours, before optional cover; the Toyota row above uses the separate Japanese-licence rates of ¥8,580 and ¥7,260. The other companies in the table publish no separate foreign-licence rate here, so get a quote for your own licence.

A foreign licence needs the original licence, a 1949 Geneva Convention International Driving Permit (or an official Japanese translation for licences from Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Monaco and Taiwan) and your passport. See driving in Japan on a foreign licence. Nico Nico accepts an International Driving Permit only at some branches, requires the renter to complete the contract in Japanese without an interpreter or translation app, and asks for an address in Japan and a phone number that can take calls. Sky rents on a Geneva Convention permit with a passport, or on a foreign licence with a Japanese translation and a passport.

From arrival to the shuttle area

Rental shuttles at Ishigaki Airport leave from the area across the pedestrian crossing outside the main entrance. Leave domestic arrivals, go out of the main entrance and cross. How you meet the shuttle depends on the company.

Staff wait at the shuttle area: Toyota (shuttle bus of about 5 minutes), Fuji (Fuji Rent a Car sign), Sky and J-Net (staff with a board), Times (only for flights landing within opening hours), Blue (a sign) and Ishigakijima Rent-a-Car (in front of the car park sign). Nissan waits at the Nissan Rent a Car shuttle stop, to the left across the crossing.
Take the circulating bus: Nico Nico (from stop 13, about 30 m to the left, about every 15 minutes), Budget (cross to the general car park side and walk about 100 m to the far left; leaves the airport 08:05–18:55), Okinawa Premium (the Ishigakijima Rental Car Station bus near car park 13, every 10 minutes) and HV.
Phone after you land: Carsta (15–20 minutes), Memorial, Kukuru (no pick-ups after 18:00), Nankoku and others. At Honda Rent-a-Car Ishigakijima, phone to say you have arrived and wait at the drop-off area by the exit on the left of the arrivals lobby.

Many companies' shuttles use the same area, so check the company name and the branch you booked before you board.

Returning: closing times and returns at the port

After you return the car, each company's shuttle takes you to the airport. Times asks for 1 hour before your flight, and Nissan for 1 hour before departure. Many branches close at 19:00. Nico Nico and Airport Rent-a-Car close at 18:00, and Times has closed at 18:00 since 1 November.

Most companies limit one-way rentals to Ishigaki Island. Orix allows them between its branches on the island (with some exceptions). Memorial takes returns at city hotels, the ferry terminal and the cruise terminal (¥2,000–¥3,000 or more, depending on the district). Airport Rent-a-Car takes returns at its Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal branch (¥3,000 extra), and UP at its Hamasaki branch near the port (¥580 transfer fee). Nippon Ishigaki Airport and Toyota Ishigakijima Airport do not accept cars rented elsewhere.

On days you visit other islands, compare the hours you do not use the car

Separating your driving days on Ishigaki from the days you take a boat to other islands makes it easier to decide how many days to rent. Compare keeping the car at the port (the rental charge and parking) with splitting the rental into two periods (the rental charge and your transport). A free transfer to the port is not guaranteed, so include that fare.

On days you change hotels, decide on a size that takes all your luggage before you compare prices. If you choose a small car by seat count alone, you may not be able to change it locally. Check whether your booking lets you specify a model, and the luggage guidance for the class.

Which branches can I walk to from Ishigaki Airport?

Honda Rent-a-Car Ishigakijima's New Ishigaki Airport branch is 5 minutes on foot, Nico Nico Ishigaki Airport 8 minutes, and Times Ishigaki Airport about 10 minutes from the central exit. The other branches are about 1–10 minutes by car, and you reach them by shuttle.

Can I still rent on a late flight?

Memorial is open until 21:00 and Chura until 20:30, and Chura takes flights landing after 20:00 if you book by the day before. Many branches close at 19:00, so on a late flight, confirm when you book.

Can I return the car at the ferry terminal?

Yes, at Memorial (ferry terminal and cruise terminal), Airport Rent-a-Car (Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal branch, ¥3,000 extra) and UP (Hamasaki branch, ¥580 transfer fee). Chura does not offer port transfers or one-way returns.
