Six rental branches at Tokyo Station: how to choose

Tokyo Station has six rental branches from four companies. Nippon Yaesu South, Toyota Yaesu and Orix are on the Yaesu side, Toyota Nihonbashi and Nissan are near the Nihonbashi Exit, and Nippon Marunouchi is on the Marunouchi side. All six are within five minutes on foot, and none runs a shuttle. Every branch except Nissan is in an underground mall, a car park or a building basement.

Early pickup or late return: Nippon Yaesu South opens first, at 07:00, and closes at 21:00. Nissan closes last, at 21:30. Both Toyota branches and Orix are open until 20:00.
At the weekend: Nippon Marunouchi opens on weekdays only (08:00–18:00). On its closed days, the Yaesu South branch takes over.
Returning a car rented elsewhere: only Toyota Nihonbashi and Orix accept it. Both Nippon branches, Toyota Yaesu and Nissan do not.
A lower base rate: on the Japanese-licence standard rates before discounts, Nippon is lowest at ¥8,910 for a compact car for 24 hours. Both Toyota branches charge Toyota's Tokyo rate of ¥10,010, because they are in the 23 wards.

Toyota, Orix and Nissan lend ETC cards for expressway tolls. Nippon's branch pages do not cover ETC cards, so ask when you book.

Reference rates at four companies

These are compact-car standard rates: regular season, tax included, before discounts, on a Japanese driving licence. The 48-hour total is the first 24 hours, one further day and two days of basic collision damage waiver (CDW). Both Toyota branches use Toyota's Tokyo rate.

With a foreign licence, Toyota has a separate list. In the 23 wards, C1 is ¥11,990 for the first 24 hours and ¥10,560 for each further 24 hours, before optional cover. Get a quote for your own licence and dates at the other companies, because these figures are not a visitor quote.

Choose the branch near your station exit

The nearest branch depends on whether you leave on the Yaesu side, at the Nihonbashi Exit or on the Marunouchi side. Tokyo Station is wide from east to west, so a branch on the far side means a long walk through the station.

Yaesu South: for Nippon Yaesu South, take the stairs facing the ticket gates down to the underground mall, then the stairs immediately left (Yaesu West car park stairs B) down to B2. The branch is inside the Yaesu West car park.
Yaesu Central to the underground mall: Toyota Yaesu is about three minutes from the Yaesu Central gates. Follow the Yaechika Main Avenue, then Sotobori Underground Street No. 3 towards Midtown. Orix is also in the Yaesu mall, five minutes (440 m) from the station. Cars are handed over in the public Yaesu Parking East car park.
Nihonbashi Exit: Toyota Nihonbashi is ahead on the right as you leave the exit, in the B2 car park of Trust Tower N (two minutes). Nissan is on the second floor of the Marunouchi Chuo Building, three minutes from the Yaesu Central Exit towards the Yaesu North and Nihonbashi exits.
Marunouchi side: Nippon Marunouchi is on B2 of the Shin-Marunouchi Building, linked by underground passage from the JR and Marunouchi Line stations.

Both are on the Yaesu side, but Nippon (Yaesu West car park) and Toyota and Orix (Yaesu underground mall) have different entrances. The Eki Rent-a-Car Tokyo Station counter is inside Toyota Nihonbashi and is booked separately as Eki Rent-a-Car (09:00–19:00; closed 1 January; no one-way rentals).

Returning the car: entrances and MAPCODEs

At the underground branches, the walking entrance and the car-park entrance differ. Enter the return MAPCODE in the navigation system when you drive back: 647 076*21 for Nippon Yaesu South, 647 514*58 for Nippon Marunouchi and 647594*83 for Toyota Nihonbashi. The Toyota Nihonbashi car-park entrance is signed "SHANGRILAHOTEL" and does not mention Toyota.

Orix's car park is busy from 10:00 to 16:00, and you may queue to enter, so the return can take longer. If you are catching a Shinkansen, allow time for refuelling, entering the car park, the return paperwork and the walk to the gates.

For a large car, check the limits at both the pickup and the return branch. Both Toyota branches exclude W4, T3, T4, BUS1 and BUS2 classes, and Toyota Yaesu has a 2.1 m height limit. Toyota Nihonbashi excludes registration classification 1 and vehicles 2.1 m or taller from one-way rentals. Nissan's car park cannot take P0, PT0, T4–T5 or M1 classes. Orix excludes vehicles 468 cm long, 169 cm wide or 196 cm tall and above from one-way rentals.

Over New Year, Nippon Marunouchi closes from 26 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, and Yaesu South takes over. Toyota Yaesu closes at 18:00 on 31 December and all day on 1–3 January. For inspections, Nissan closes at 20:00 on 18 December 2026 and opens at 09:00 on 19 December.

Rent only on the days you leave central Tokyo

If you stay near Tokyo Station and then head out of the city, compare leaving your central Tokyo days out of the rental. Once you count overnight parking for a car you are not using, changing the pickup day can affect the total more than a price difference of a few hours.

If you land and drive straight out of Tokyo, renting at Haneda Airport is another option. If you rent at Tokyo Station and return in another region, check the one-way fee and the car sizes the return branch accepts when you book.

Which branches open at weekends?

Nippon Marunouchi opens on weekdays only and closes at weekends and on holidays. The other five open at weekends, though New Year closures vary by branch.

Can I return a car rented elsewhere at Tokyo Station?

Toyota Nihonbashi and Orix accept it. Both Nippon branches, Toyota Yaesu and Nissan do not. Toyota Nihonbashi excludes registration classification 1 and vehicles 2.1 m or taller, and Orix excludes large vehicles such as those 468 cm long or more.
